It is time for a Kamala Harris Presidency: I am not a medical doctor. I am an ex-naval officer, investment banker, and now a finance professor.
However, both of my parents had dementia for several years before they passed, and I know what it looks like.
I was intimately involved. After watching Biden’s first 2020 primary debate, I told an attorney friend of mine that he had it. A year later, when he assumed the presidency, my friend called and concurred.
Joe Biden and the Dementia Challenge
Dementia is a progressive disease, and people with it can function for a long time. The problem is that despite conventional medical treatments, the good days become fewer. In the later stages, it is often characterized by the subject being only able to think rationally or retain information during certain times of the day. Or, having good days and bad days all together, and sometimes they have delusions that become memories.
The problem is that the presidency is 24-hour job, 7 days per week, where at 3 AM the president may have to make military decisions that might lead to war. Moreover, even during the working day (whatever that is, because it is not a consistent schedule), he has to be fully alert, have full mental capacity, and be fully engaged.
He or she is making important daily decisions that can determine this country’s direction and prosperity.
The president, more than any other position, influences the perception of our allies and enemies as to our willingness and ability as a nation to respond to threats.
You cannot have a president who is only functional or partially functional between 10 AM and 4 PM, ostensibly Joe Biden’s good part of the day.
Why Did It Take So Long To Get Here on Biden?
I am shocked that it has taken this long for it to become an issue, as I have watched Biden deteriorate.
I am not going to get into the blame game, but I know this could not have eluded his staff or cabinet, who have the responsibility for enacting Article 25.
We need a president who has full mental faculties because otherwise, we do not know who is really running the government and making the decisions. We hold the president accountable.
The question I have is, what is it going to take?
We have already seen him wander off in videos or get lost on stage multiple times over the past two years. His speaking is almost incoherent at times, and these are not selected or out-of-context clips. This is our emperor who has no clothes at the moment.
I am not a Joe Biden supporter, but I would be saying the same thing if the president were a Republican. The cabinet needs to enact the 25th Amendment.
