The Sign Donald Trump Is About To Get Smoked in the Midterm Election: His Poll Numbers Are Rock Bottom

A Reuters/Ipsos poll taken on the eve of the midterms puts Trump’s approval near a record low and shows voters favoring Democrats by eight points and trusting them more on the cost of living. Republicans trail in enthusiasm, and top forecasters are predicting a “blue wave” when results come in tonight.

Trump Approval Rating Continues to Plummet Amid Iran War – President Donald Trump’s approval rating continues to plummet amid his ongoing war against Iran, dropping to 32%.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll completed on the eve of the midterm elections on Monday found that just 32% of voters approved of what Trump was doing in his second term, a near-record low, though up 1% from the 31% he received in a Reuters-Ipsos poll several weeks earlier.

46% of voters also told Reuters they currently prefer the Democratic Party, versus 38% who said they currently favor the Republican Party.

A majority of voters also favored Democrats when asked which party was better on the cost of living. 43% of voters said the Democratic Party was better on the issue, while 32% sided with the Republican Party.

Republicans Significantly Less Enthusiastic About Voting in Midterms

While supporters of both parties expressed a lack of enthusiasm about voting in the midterms, Republicans were significantly less enthusiastic about turning out to vote than Democrats. 49% of Democratic voters told Reuters they were “very enthusiastic” about voting, while a catastrophic 33% of Republicans said the same.

According to Reuters, Trump’s approval rating has fallen 15 percentage points since his inauguration in January 2025 and 8 percentage points since the outbreak of his war against Iran.

Several prominent pollsters and political analysts have predicted a “blue wave” Democratic victory in Tuesday’s midterm elections, with a high likelihood of even long-term Republican seats flipping to Democrats.

“This is Going to be a Blue Wave” and “the End of the Trump Era,” Say Analysts

“This is going to be a blue wave,” predicted political scientist Larry Sabato. “Incredibly, a Democrat might win a Texas U.S. Senate seat for the first time since 1988.”

He explained, “The voters we’re hearing from in a variety of ways tell us they can’t make ends meet. They’re most concerned about inflation and the high cost of living. Some have said it’s the worst they’ve ever experienced.”

Political analyst Nate Silver also predicted a “blue tsunami” on Sunday, acknowledging that the polls “showed what can only be described as fantastic numbers for Democrats.”

“If the election goes roughly as the polls say it will, then in some ways it would mark the end of the Trump era,” Silver told the New York Times last month.

Polls Agree Trump is Very Unpopular

Other polls have placed Trump’s approval rating similarly low.

A New York Times survey placed Trump’s mid-term approval rating at 34% — a full 7% below former president Joe Biden’s approval rating going into the 2022 midterm elections, which resulted in Biden and the Democratic Party losing the House to Republicans.

Since the Second World War, every president who has polled under 39% going into the midterms has lost seats in both the House and Senate to the opposition.

Former president George W. Bush experienced such a defeat in 2006, losing both the House and Senate after polling at 37%.

Despite Trump’s initial assurances that the war against Iran would last just four to six weeks, the conflict recently entered its eighth month, with the cost of living and fuel prices continuing to rise across the world.

According to the New York Times, 55% of American voters now say they would trust the Democratic Party over the Republican Party to lower the cost of living. 53% of voters also said they would trust the Democrats over the Republicans to lower the cost of fuel.

Three-Time Trump Voters Are Pledging to Vote Democrat or Skip the Midterms Entirely

Last month, several former Trump voters told the Washington Post that they would either vote Democrat or skip the midterm elections entirely as a result of the rising cost of living.

“I fell for it three times,” said three-time Georgia Trump voter Rick Sebring, who revealed that he would be switching his vote to Democrat in response to the president’s Iran war.

Others told the newspaper that while they would continue to vote Republican, they had never seen the economy in such a bad state.

42-year-old Virginia Trump supporter Amy Reese told the Washington Post she had “never seen the economy this bad, ever, and it’s scary,” claiming that her electric bill had risen to nearly $700 a month, her insulin for diabetes had more than doubled, and her husband’s business was now at risk of going under.
