Why Russia Deliberately Targeted a Mess Hall Full of Foreign Volunteers in Ukraine
A Russian missile strike on a training camp in Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine, on July 21 resulted in one of the war’s deadliest attacks on foreign volunteers.
The missile hit a mess hall during lunchtime, killing and wounding over 100 recruits from countries including the United States, Colombia, and Denmark.
According to a survivor, the attack occurred without an air raid warning. The deadly strike comes as Russia makes fresh advances on the battlefield near Pokrovsk and just days before a high-stakes summit is scheduled between President Trump and Vladimir Putin to discuss a potential ceasefire.
Several foreign recruits who came to Ukraine to volunteer were killed in a Russian strike last month when a missile struck the mess hall at their training camp as they ate lunch, the New York Times reported Tuesday.
The attack was “one of the deadliest attacks on foreign fighters of the war,” soldiers told the newspaper. It took place in the central Ukrainian city of Kropyvnytskyi on July 21.
The soldiers killed came from such nations as the United States, Colombia, Taiwan, and Denmark, although exact casualty counts were not announced. They believe, though, that the attack was planned for when the recruits sat down to eat.
The names and information have not been shared for the American or Americans killed in the attack, while one recruit from Florida did describe the explosion to the Times as “the loudest he had ever heard.” That recruit, per the report, had only arrived at the camp within the last week and had not yet been issued a rifle.
No Alarms
“After the explosion, dead and dismembered bodies and gravely wounded soldiers were lying on the ground near the mess hall, he said. He saw at least 15 dead soldiers and more than 100 others who were wounded, he added,” The Times said.
“The strike also set fire to an ammunition depot, the soldier said, triggering more explosions and sending debris and shrapnel whistling through the air, as survivors tried to tend to the wounded. He said he had applied tourniquets to some gravely wounded soldiers and had carried them to ambulances, trucks, and private cars that then raced to hospitals.”
The air raid alarm did not sound before the attack, the report stated.
How Foreign Fighting in Ukraine Works
When foreigners volunteer for the Ukrainian Army, The Times reported, they join one of two dedicated international legions: one under the army and the other associated with the military intelligence agency. While many American veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan have been inspired to fight in Ukraine, the war has also been attracting fighters from South America.
CNN reported in January that, as of that time, more than 20 Americans were missing in action in Ukraine, while there were at least five American volunteers whose bodies could not be retrieved from the battlefield.
“The relatives of the missing Americans have told CNN of the distressing lack of closure in not being able to bury their sons, of the legal limbo of not being able to officially declare their loved ones dead, and also of the torment inflicted by Russian internet trolls who harass them online. The intensity of fighting across Ukraine’s front eastern lines means the corpses of soldiers from both sides often cannot be collected and litter the battlefield,” the CNN report said.
Another Advance in Ukraine for Russia
Meanwhile, the Times also reported that Russia had made a new battlefield advance, ahead of this Friday’s scheduled meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. The advance was near the city of Pokrovsk.
“The situation is quite chaotic, as the enemy, having found gaps in the defense, is infiltrating deep inside, trying to quickly establish a foothold and accumulate forces for further advancement,” DeepState, described as “a Ukrainian group with ties to the military that maps the battlefield,” reported this week.
President Volodymyr Zelensky had stated in his evening address that the Russians were “redeploying their troops and forces in ways that suggest preparations for new offensive operations” and “not preparing for a cease-fire or an end to the war.”
The summit Friday, which will take place in Alaska, is seen as an attempt by Trump to end the war as soon as possible, as he long promised to do on day one of his second presidency.

Russian troops have allegedly entered dobropillia (just a few km north of pokrovsk), or parts of the place, and thereby cutting its main road to heavily defended pokrovsk.
As such, the situation in pokrovsk is now getting worse and worse by the hour, and if the Russians are smart, they should just start employing aerial glide bombs.
Hurl tons and tons of glide bombs at the Berlin of western donetsk.
Three more days to finish the job.

Agai, there is no, zero War there. There is a war in GAZA with lundsmen against muslims.
There is a re-start of the ancient 1000 year old genocide and sex trade of Ukrainians by the ethnic russkie peasants.
Yes, history documents that Putin’s great grandpappy was involved in the genocide of 20,000,000 million Ukrainians by starvation in the world’s biggest genocide the HOLODOMOR. Strange that the op-ed mind here can not type out the word genocide.
Just as in 1616, the russkie sex traders used the Crimea as a place to “harvest” little Ukrainian children for Putin’s computerized mass child abduction operation. Ukrainian Fathers of 1616 did die and of 2025 die fighting to get their children returned from sex deviant russkies.
Worst, the USA restarted this genocide in 2014 by the POTUS Obama’s Democrat Cabal unilateral greenlighting this Putin “little green groomer” military mass abduction business. In 2014 Putin was in competition with Jeffrey Epstein.
Notice, that Trump did zip, zero to stop the Putin mass abduction “Lolita” operation during his four year first term. Trump refused to demand that Putin pre-pay $10,000,000 in US Gold bullion to each and every Ukrainian victim as compensation and reparation for 11 years of child abuse. Trump of 2025 still refuses to demand that Putin immediately pre-pay the compensation and reparation in advance, before Putin releases the kids from their table top duties in muscovite deviancies.
Trump can stop the restart of this genocide in 4 days with a single sentence with this single demand. But, something stops Trump’s ability to end this genocide. Could Trump not want compensation and reparation for the abused little children? Could Trump be dreaming of giving the muscovite genocide deviates 11 years of free table top dancing russkie style free, a gift from the POTUS deal maker himself to these evil criminal child abusers. No way! You think? -30-
