Key Points and Summary on Iran and Nuclear Weapons – A senior advisor to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mehdi Mohammadi, posted and then quickly deleted a viral AI-generated image depicting a nuclear attack on Israel.

-The post, which showed mushroom clouds over the country, came just weeks after US and Israeli strikes crippled Iran’s nuclear facilities.

-Mohammadi later backtracked, blaming a page administrator and claiming he doesn’t believe in nuclear deterrence.

-This “accidental” reveal, however, is seen by many as a glimpse into the true, aggressive ambitions of the Iranian regime, directly contradicting its public claims of a peaceful nuclear program.

Did Iran Accidentally Reveal Its True Nuclear Ambitions?

A social media post published over the weekend just gave the world a look at the true motivations of Iranian leadership, after a strategic advisor to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament shared an AI-generated image of Israel being hit by a nuclear bomb.

Mehdi Mohammadi, who works for Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, shared the image on his Instagram story on Saturday. The image depicts two mushroom clouds over Israel, with fallout expanding across the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

How Iran Feels on Nukes?

The controversial image, see above, immediately went viral, and for good reason: Iran’s true plans for its nuclear program have long been contested.

Some Western analysts and politicians have argued, particularly in the wake of President Donald Trump’s decision to support Israeli strikes in Iran, that the country’s nuclear program doesn’t pose a threat to the West and that the country has the right to pursue its “nuclear energy” ambitions.

Iranian officials have been consistently inconsistent on the topic over the years, too.

In 2003, for example, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa that banned the production and use of any kind of weapon of mass destruction.

However, before the B-2 bomber strikes that destroyed Iran’s nuclear facilities, the country was enriching uranium to 60% U-235, which is well above the 3-5% typical for civilian reactor fuel, and close to weapons-grade levels of around 90%. Iran’s true intentions were not hard to see.

But, as the country works to strengthen its military and rebuild its nuclear program without triggering new Israeli or American strikes, aggressive social media posts that depict Israel being wiped out by a nuclear bomb aren’t exactly helpful for the regime. That’s likely why, just hours after Mohammadi made the post, he quickly backtracked.

“That story was posted by the admin of my page and was deleted a few minutes later,” a follow-up post reads. “I personally do not believe that developing nuclear weapons would enhance Iran’s deterrence. At the very least, it’s an extremely complex issue.”

Iran: The Next Nuclear State and a Threat?

Mohammadi added that the possession of nuclear weapons “hasn’t prevented Israel from receiving heavy blows, or enabled Ukraine to strike Russia decisively,” adding that the “military utility of nuclear arms is far more limited than most people imagine.”

The comments conveniently align with Iran’s public insistence that its nuclear program is not designed to produce nuclear weapons, despite a decades-long battle to enrich uranium to weapons-grade levels.

The controversial post follows the enactment of a new law in Iran that prevents cooperation between the state’s nuclear energy officials and the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.

As Iran vows to rebuild its nuclear program and denies plans to build a nuclear weapon, comments made by the nation’s own politicians and government officials, along with laws passed in its parliament, reveal its true intentions.
