Deadly Russian Attack On Ukraine Kills 11 People: A Russian missile attack killed six people and wounded “dozens” in the Kyiv region on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, while other missile and bomb attacks in the country resulted in a total of at least 11 dead.
Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the city and called on residents to stay in shelters as air defense systems shooting down missiles and drones would cause falling debris.

“A rescue operation is currently underway in the Kyiv region following a Russian missile strike … tragically, six people were killed,” Zelensky said. He also added that Russian aerial bombing killed five people in the frontline city of Sloviansk, located in the Donetsk oblast.
Residential buildings, vehicles, and the building of a foreign consulate were damaged in the attack.
“Russians attack our cities daily – and for the second day in a row, their attacks have led to numerous casualties in Sloviansk,” Vadym Filashkin, the governor of the city of Sloviansk, said. “I call on everyone who is still near the front line: evacuate.”
Ukrainian Drone Strikes Target Another Wildberries Warehouse
Meanwhile, the Ukrainians launched another deadly strike on Russia, targeting a military equipment factory more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the front in the city of Kirov killed six people.
Zelenskyy characterized the site as a “key military enterprise” in Kirov, saying it “supplies components for the occupier’s aircraft and missile systems.
Kirov Governor Alexander Sokolov confirmed that a “factory” was attacked and that the six people were killed and another 26 were wounded.
Ukraine also attacked warehouses belonging to Russian online retail giant Wildberries outside Saint Petersburg.
Wildberries is the Russian equivalent to Amazon.com, however, it does sell military equipment and individual kit used by Russian soldiers, as well as drones.
Tatyana Kim, Wildberries’ founder and Russia’s wealthiest woman, said the latest attacks had targeted warehouses in St Petersburg, in the surrounding Leningrad region and in Simferopol, in the Russian-annexed Crimea.
Russian Citizens Vent Anger At Ukraine’s Attacks
The attacks are part of an ongoing tit-for-tat escalation. However, Russian citizens are growing angry at Ukraine for attacks on their largest cities.
A 50-year-old woman identified only as “Anna” stated that Ukraine’s attacks have only “made people angry.”
“This Ukrainian tactic is not leading to peace; even in my entourage, people are getting angrier and say that if that’s their way, then we should continue.”
Another citizen, Svetlana, a 30-year-old cashier in Saint Petersburg, said she was “frightened” and that “everything is getting worse”.
She added that Ukraine was to blame: “Of course I want peace, but you see what they (Ukrainians) are doing.”
However, these Russian citizens have not seen their own government’s attacks targeting Ukrainian citizens and civilian infrastructure since the invasion began in 2022.
The Kremlin’s censorship actively conceals the realities of the war in Ukraine through strict criminal laws, the blocking of independent media, and advanced digital controls.
The Kremlin forces citizens into an information vacuum by punishing independent reporting and promoting state narratives.
UN Estimates Up To 40,000 Civilian Casualties In Ukraine
Since the war started in early 2014 with the illegal annexation of Crimea and the attempted seizure of the Donbas, Russia has targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure (apartment buildings, hospitals, small neighborhoods), trying to terrorize and break the will of the people.
The attacks yesterday killed at least 11 people while authorities search bombed-out buildings and residents for survivors.
Since the full-scale invasion, the UN estimates between 15,000 and 40,000 civilian casualties, with targeted bombings consistently destroying residential areas, energy grids, and medical facilities.
Human rights organizations and the UN continue to document these actions as violations of international humanitarian law. Ukraine’s civilian casualties have skyrocketed by more than 37 percent in the first half of this year.
The UN reported that this number “almost doubled” what was documented in 2024. From February 24, 2022, to the end of June 2026, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) verified at least 65,044 civilian casualties in Ukraine. This includes 16,431 confirmed deaths and 48,613 injuries, though the actual toll is likely significantly higher.
