Key Points and Summary – The Kremlin has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s calls for a peace summit, stating that President Vladimir Putin will only meet his counterpart after a full peace agreement is finalized by lower-level negotiators.

-With the two sides’ positions described as “diametrically opposed,” this is seen as an impossible condition designed to block direct talks.

-The hardline stance was reinforced when the latest negotiations in Istanbul collapsed after just 40 minutes.

-This defiance comes as the Kremlin openly dismisses President Trump’s 50-day ceasefire ultimatum, signaling no change in its war aims.

Putin Says He’ll Meet Zelenskyy Under One Condition

The Kremlin has ruled out a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week, stating that such talks would only be possible in the final stages of negotiations – once the framework of a mutually acceptable peace agreement is in place.

The Washington Post reported that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said proposals drafted by Russian and Ukrainian negotiators are “diametrically opposed” and that “extremely complex diplomatic work” must take place before the two leaders meet.

Peskov also indicated that a deal is unlikely to be reached within the next month, making it doubtful that U.S. President Donald Trump’s 50-day deadline will be met.

Failure to do so could prompt Trump to work with Congress to advance the proposed Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025, introduced by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, which would impose new sanctions and tariffs on Russia and its trade partners.

“A summit meeting can and should put an end to the settlement and formalize the modalities and agreements that are to be worked out in the course of expert work,” Peskov said. “It is impossible to do the opposite. Is it possible to complete such a complex process in 30 days? Obviously, it is unlikely.”

Zelenskyy’s Optimism Rebuffed

Over the weekend, an optimistic Zelenskyy proposed that the United States broker a new round of negotiations between the two countries.

It was the first offer to restart talks after the Trump administration agreed to begin the transfer of more air defense systems and other military hardware to Ukraine.

“The Russian side must stop hiding from decisions,” Zelenskyy said in a video aired last Saturday evening.

The following day, Peskov told Russian state television that Putin would still prefer to resolve the conflict through diplomacy, but that Russia’s primary objective remains to achieve its goals.

“President Putin has repeatedly spoken of his desire to bring the Ukrainian settlement to a peaceful conclusion as soon as possible,” Peskov said. “This is a long process, it requires effort, and it is not easy.”

During his daily address on Monday, July 21, Zelenskyy revealed plans for a new round of peace talks in Istanbul.

“Today, I discussed with [Ukrainian Security Council chief] Rustem Umerov the preparations for a prisoner exchange and another meeting in Turkey with the Russian side,” Zelenskyy said. “Umerov reported that the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.”

A brief meeting did take place on Wednesday. Russian and Ukrainian officials met for just 40 minutes after once again disagreeing on the fundamentals of a peace agreement, let alone specifics.

After the meeting, negotiators agreed to another round of prisoner exchanges, with an additional 1,200 prisoners expected to be freed in the near future.

This article, and indeed all articles, needs to elaborate what Russia’s “goals” are so we all can understand what they are!

Russia wants a victor’s peace… peace on their terms.

The terms are to restore Ukraine to their pre-2014 neutral status, equal rights for Russian-speakers, as was the law in Ukraine before the 2014 coup, remove the coup regime which took power upon the violent, bloody, overthrow of the democratically elected president, and finally, restore Ukraine to its pre-2014 constabulary-sized military force.

Essentially, treat the 2014 coup as a poisonous tree and the subsequent events as the fruit of said poisonous tree.

Russia wants to pull out by root and branch the poisonous tree and restore Ukraine to its pre-2014 status, minus annexed territory.

It wouldn’t destroy Ukraine as some have claimed (at present, leaving 80% of Ukraine intact), but it would amount to capitulation (demanding a change in government amounts to a demand for capitulation).

Ukraine since 2014 has been a disaster of hyper anti-Russian policies which grew out of the psychotic Stepan Bandera ideology of obsessive, Russian hatred camouflaged as so-called “Ukrainian Nationalism.”

This unremitting hatred for Russia is a cancer in Europe… and Russia is determined to remove it, one way or the other.

However, the cure can be as dangerous as the disease, and the operation could end up being a bridge too far… throwing all of Europe into war.

    Dangerous, indeed.

The year 2014 signifies when the POTUS Obama Democrat Cabal unilaterally greenlighted the loss of the geopolitical advantage of the WEST owning the Ukraine’s Crimean soil, families and Black/Azov Sea zones to the prime vile cold war enemy of the WEST: Putin. This covert betrayal of the WEST by a cheap marxist started Putin’s “little green groomer’ invasion of Ukraine harvesting little children for his ancient ethnic genetic need
