Key Points and Summary – President Donald Trump has abruptly reversed a pause on US arms shipments to Ukraine, a decision prompted by a massive Russian aerial assault and a “very disappointing” phone call with Vladimir Putin.

-Just days after halting deliveries of key weapons like Patriot missiles, Trump announced the US “has to” send more defensive aid because Ukraine is “getting hit very hard.”

-The shift follows a “productive” call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has been urgently appealing for more air defense systems.

-This reversal signals a potential re-engagement by the Trump administration in supporting Ukraine’s defense.

Trump Reverses Pause on Ukraine Arms After Russian Onslaught

Donald Trump has announced that the United States will resume sending weapons to Ukraine—just days after Washington paused critical arms shipments.

The former president’s reversal comes after a brutal wave of Russian airstrikes battered Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, prompting urgent appeals from President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump ‘Not Happy’ With Putin

Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump admitted he was “not happy” with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and said Ukraine was “getting hit very hard.”

He said the U.S. would now provide “defensive weapons” to help Kyiv protect itself.

“We’re going to send some more weapons. We have to,” Trump said. “They’re getting hit very hard now. I’m disappointed that President Putin has not stopped.”

Just last week, the Pentagon said it would pause deliveries of high-value systems like Patriot air defence missiles and precision artillery shells, citing a review of America’s global military commitments. The move drew immediate concern from Kyiv, with Zelensky warning it would seriously undermine Ukraine’s ability to defend against Russia’s growing aerial attacks.

Zelensky described the Patriot systems as “real protectors of life,” and said he had spoken with Trump about ramping up air defences. His comments came shortly after Russia launched its largest single-day aerial assault since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. So far Putin’s regime has fired 539 drones and 11 missiles across Ukraine.

The Pentagon Speaks Out

The Pentagon released a short statement late Monday confirming the shift: “At President Trump’s direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops.”

The resumption of these shipments will offer Ukraine some respite. Still, it shows just how reliant Kyiv’s war effort is on foreign help. Decisions are not being made by Zelenskyy, but by a government thousands of miles across the world.

No Peace in Sight in the Ukraine War

Still, efforts to strike a ceasefire deal are on ice. Trump admitted after a recent phone call with Putin that “no progress” had been made and bluntly added, “I don’t think he’s looking to stop.”

The message from Kyiv is clear: without consistent Western backing, Ukraine is left dangerously exposed. And while Trump’s decision may have shifted under pressure, questions remain about how long U.S. support will hold.

As Russia intensifies its assault, Ukraine needs more than stop-start pledges. It needs certainty.

Ah, but there is peace in sight… the peace of the grave.

Trump is, indeed, waffling on ending the war, as was his campaign promise, but no matter.

It won’t make any difference… and… don’t kid yourself, the combination of Kiev’s air defense and other weapons needs and defending Israel with Patriot missile defense, THADD, and Aegis defense systems is putting a strain on American stockpiles.

In fact, I suspect Trump’s indication of more weapons is more rhetorical than real… we just don’t have that many to send Ukraine…

… but Trump doesn’t want to publicly admit it.

(I actually agree with Trump. We don’t want to admit how low we actually are… but it’s better not to say anything at all.)

Reports suggest Russia is ramping up for a more aggressive Summer of fighting.

The walls are closing in on the Stepan Bandera hyper-chauvinists and it strongly looks like Kiev will lose all territory East of the Dnieper River if Kiev doesn’t sue for peace now.

And, if they hold out to the bitter end… to the last bunker, the country of Ukraine will cease to exist. All territories East of the Dnieper will be gone and the Western part of Ukraine will be absorbed by Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and even Moldova could get territory in Southern Ukraine West of the Danube River.

Sue for peace now or face elimination… for good.
