President Donald Trump knows he is about to “get trounced” in the midterm elections, said former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci on Tuesday.
Speaking to CNBC about Trump and the Republican Party’s odds in Tuesday’s elections, Scaramucci warned, “I think the president’s going to get trounced, by the way, and I think he knows he’s about to get trounced.”

“You have one vote. You have one customer relations survey that you can do on the American president. That’s at the midterms, and people are not happy,” he noted, adding that the president “promised affordability, he promised no more forever wars, he promised transparency on the Epstein files,” and ultimately “didn’t deliver on any of that stuff.”
Scaramucci said, “And so there are a lot of people inside MAGA that are now also breaking from him.”
The former White House communications director — who famously lasted just ten days at Trump’s side — went on to explain that Trump’s war against Iran had alienated his biggest supporters, independents, and those most focused on the economy alike.
“Wars are very bad for business,” he noted. “They’re not great for the stock market.”
Trump Will Be Hit With “Investigations” Over His Shady Dealings as GOP Plunges Into Civil War
Scaramucci also predicted that Trump and his administration officials would soon face investigation over their shady dealings in the White House: “If he gets trounced here, there will be bicameral investigations that will be the main show because there are a lot of things that are going on in the administration that the Democrats are going to want to uncover.”
As for the future of the Republican Party, Scaramucci predicted a “great intellectual civil war” would soon take place in the GOP, with the victors deciding on the direction of the party in a post-Trump world.
“It’s no longer the party of Ronald Reagan, certainly not the party of George W. Bush,” he acknowledged. “But is it the party of Donald Trump after he leaves the stage?”
Trump’s Approval Rating Has Crashed Since Outbreak of Iran War
The president’s approval rating has plummeted since the outbreak of his war against Iran, dropping to just 32% in a Reuters-Ipsos poll this week ahead of the midterms.
Many Republican voters also said they were far less enthusiastic than Democrats about turning out to vote, with just 33% of Republicans telling Reuters they were “very enthusiastic” about voting in the election — a full 16% below Democrats.
Many prominent pollsters and political scientists have predicted a “blue wave” victory for Democrats in the midterm elections on Tuesday, with even Republican strongholds likely to flip blue for the first time in decades.
Political analyst Nate Silver went even further, predicting a “blue tsunami” which could “mark the end of the Trump era.”
Trump Reveals What He Will Do if Republicans Lose Control of Congress
Trump himself acknowledged the possibility of a huge defeat this week, threatening to become “Mr. Veto” should Republicans lose control of Congress.
“I’ll become Mr. Veto,” he told reporters. “They’ll be sending stuff up. You veto it. And eventually, after a month or two of getting all vetoed, they’re just wasting time, they come over, and you make a deal.”
Trump went on, “I think that probably would happen, but hopefully we don’t have to worry about that.”
The Writing Has Been on the Wall For Months
For many Republicans, the writing has been on the wall for months.
Former Trump White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews warned of the Republican Party’s impending midterms disaster earlier this year, predicting that the results would be particularly “brutal.”
“Historically, midterms are not good for the party of the president,” said Matthews in May. “But I think that with these midterms coming up, voters feel a lot of buyer’s remorse. They feel like they’ve been bamboozled by this administration.”
Acknowledging that the Trump administration had generally been doing the “complete opposite” of what it had promised, she warned, “There’s a very good chance that we could see both chambers flip.”
“It could be quite a brutal evening,” said one unnamed senior Republican to Politico last month. “Once the dominoes start falling, it becomes hard to stop them.”
