Trump Confirms 10-Day Russia Deadline Began Yesterday
U.S. President Donald Trump has doubled down on his promise to bring forward the 50-day deadline he implemented on July 14 for Russia to agree to a peace deal with Ukraine.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 29, Trump said that Russia must agree to a ceasefire by August 8 or face sweeping new sanctions and tariffs that will extend to its biggest global trade partners.
During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the president announced that the deadline would be shortened to “10 or 12” days, without providing specific details about when the new deadline would begin. On Tuesday, as he prepared to travel back to the United States aboard Air Force One, the president confirmed that the new deadline was 10 days, and that it began on Tuesday.
“And then we’re going to put on tariffs,” the president said, confirming his previous pledge to implement secondary sanctions and tariffs on Russia’s trading partners.
“And I don’t know if it’s going to affect Russia, because he wants to, obviously, probably keep the war going,” Trump said.
The president’s words suggested that he is aware Russia is unlikely to back down after the implementation of new tariffs.
While it’s not the first time the president has changed a deadline given to a foreign government, it is the first time he has shortened a deadline given to Moscow. Trump’s decision to pressure Russia to agree to a deal follows a decision to resume arms shipments to Ukraine – a radical shift from his initial approach to the conflict. While Trump initially encouraged Ukraine to make bigger concessions to Russia citing their lack of leverage, the president’s efforts were repeatedly met by Russian escalation on the battlefield.
Trump also said Tuesday that he has not received an official response from Moscow about the new deadline.
The Kremlin has been publicly quiet on the topic, too. Even after the president announced his decision to shorten the timeline, the Kremlin did little more than acknowledge the president’s comments. Also on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow “took note” of the president’s statement.
“The Special Military Operation is ongoing, and we remain committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and ensure our interests in the course of this settlement,” Peskov said.
However, there are reasons to believe that Moscow may be monitoring the situation to see how it unfolds and is potentially considering ways to de-escalate.
Speaking to Newsweek last week, the CEO of a Ukraine aid organization claimed that Russia is working to make as many gains in Ukraine as possible before the end of Trump’s deadline. Hope for Ukraine chief Yuriy Boyechko told the outlet that despite reports suggesting Putin isn’t fazed by Trump’s deadline, the reality on the battlefield suggests otherwise.
According to the outlet, Boyechko said that Putin is focusing his efforts on taking control of regions of Sumy, Dnipro, and Kharkiv. Boyechko also claimed that the next few weeks could be particularly dangerous for Ukrainian civilians as drone and missile barrages increasingly target civilian infrastructure.
“The Russians are attacking civilians’ targets with intensity that we have not seen since the start of the war,” he said.

This coming august 8 2025 (nine days away) is THE DAY, or D-DAY, for use of tactical nukes against the nazis.
What would Donald trump really do when the nukes start flying.
Nothing, just giving out clouds of hot empty air, bursting forth from his lungs.
I would wager that could really affect the man’s health. Trump’s UNLIKELY to complete his second term in office.
JD Vance will eventually become the 48th president of the United States.
