Iran has begun restoring military infrastructure damaged during months of American and Israeli airstrikes. A satellite-imagery review published July 24 found repair work at missile bases, ports, bridges, roads, and production facilities.
Images from a missile complex north of Kermanshah showed crews repairing access roads and clearing collapsed tunnel entrances. Other imagery showed work at military and maritime sites. The pictures do not establish that every facility has returned to full operation, but they show that Iran can restore access and basic functions quickly.

Independent imagery analysis has identified similar activity at Taleghan 2 inside the Parchin military complex. The Institute for Science and International Security found cranes, trucks, debris removal, new concrete, and work to seal penetration holes during June and early July. Cleanup also occurred around nearby missile-production buildings.
The nuclear picture remains less conclusive. The European Council on Foreign Relations’ July monitor found no major reconstruction at Natanz, Fordow, or Isfahan. Iran has continued digging at the unbombed Pickaxe Mountain site near Natanz, however, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has never inspected its underground halls, according to an Associated Press review.
Iran’s Underground Missile Network Survived the Surface Damage
Iran built many missile sites around tunnels cut into mountains. Airstrikes can collapse entrances, destroy surface buildings, damage roads, and hit launch infrastructure. Weapons and equipment stored deeper inside may survive unless bombs penetrate the underground chambers. Reopening a road or tunnel mouth is easier than replacing an advanced radar, guidance plant, or missile-production line.
That difference helps explain why Iran has continued launching missiles after thousands of targets were struck. Buried stockpiles and repairable access points have created a recurring strategic problem for Washington. Tactical damage can reduce launch capacity for days or weeks while leaving enough surviving infrastructure for Tehran to resume operations.
Repeated U.S. Strikes Are Becoming a Suppression Campaign
U.S. Central Command completed a 13th consecutive night of renewed strikes on July 23. Its latest public target list included command centers, drone storage, communications networks, coastal-surveillance sites, and maritime capabilities. The repeated rounds indicate that Iranian functions require additional attacks after dispersal, repair, or replacement.
Airpower has damaged Iran’s armed forces and raised the cost of rebuilding. A campaign designed to degrade capability can succeed while Iran repairs selected sites. Keeping those capabilities unavailable indefinitely requires surveillance and repeated strikes. That distinction is central to how the air campaign should be measured.
Iran also has a large construction sector and experience repairing infrastructure under sanctions. Roads, tunnel portals, bridges, warehouses, and support buildings can return relatively quickly.
Advanced missile manufacturing and precision machinery take longer. Satellite imagery can show concrete and vehicles, but it cannot prove that hidden production lines are working at their former rate.
Iran’s Nuclear Recovery Remains Harder to Measure
Pickaxe Mountain illustrates the limits of remote assessment. The buried complex may eventually support centrifuge production or enrichment, but public evidence does not show active enrichment there. Israeli intelligence reportedly believes Iran moved thousands of centrifuges into the mountain, creating a harder inspection and targeting problem.
The repair work at Taleghan 2 is also significant without proving a restored weapons program. Concrete hardening and sealed impact holes show an intention to preserve or reuse the site. They do not establish what equipment remains underground or what activity has resumed.
Repeated attacks may encourage Iran to place more sensitive work underground and reduce transparency, strengthening the incentive to preserve a future nuclear option. Iran can suffer extensive military damage while retaining leverage through surviving underground capacity.
Washington and Israel Face a Rebuilding Cycle
The United States and Israel can continue striking reconstructed sites, accept partial Iranian recovery, or seek an agreement combining inspections, missile limits, and enforceable rules. Continued bombing consumes aircraft hours, precision weapons, intelligence capacity, and political support while exposing regional bases and shipping to retaliation.
Iran’s rebuilding does not erase the damage already inflicted. It shows why military destruction cannot settle every strategic problem. Satellite images do not prove that Tehran has fully restored its missile or nuclear programs. They show that roads, tunnel entrances, ports, and support facilities are returning before the air campaign has produced a durable settlement.
